Are we like hares blinded by car headlights?
In the face of major events like the last 2 years of economical roller coaster, it’s easy to slip into “freeze mode”.
Is it because we are bombarded by he media capitalising on the drama overseas and how it affects us? Or do we “freeze” for other reasons, like a dramatic increase in our natural tendency to doubt?
Let me explain: when it comes to doing something different and unusual to get more clients and generate growth in our businesses, we always show reluctance based on “What if it doesn’t work?”Does it get worse when things get tough? …To the point that we lose all momentum only to stare at the big event like a Tsunami heading for us, amplified by radio, TV and newspaper coverage.
Simultaneously we forget all the small things that we could do with little effort or cost and that could make a huge difference to our businesses. Things like after sale courtesy calls, referral programs and joint ventures. So we leave all these small tools and tricks in our tool box and keep staring in the hope that things will get better.
Our sheer belief in our business growth freezes as well, as we shift into survival mode.
The problem is that survival mode invariably leads to a downturn. What if we did the things we should have been doing before but didn’t do because sales were trucking along OK? What if we now decided to do the unusual, the more quirky, the “extra mile” kind of stuff that makes a daily difference?
Next time you get a reflective break, like over Xmas, why not look at all the little changes you could make to get your business cranking again. A good start would be to download my free report: “The 21 breakthroughs of effective advertising”.
Remember, the hare only needs a couple of small sidesteps to avoid getting run over.
