Lesson From The Underdogs
Talking about the French Rugby team as underdogs would have been an
understatement as they entered the arena to face England in The
Rugby World Cup quarter finals among tales of hatred between
coach and players , plus ongoing poor performances.
It was almost as the dice were thrown and the result utterly
predictable. As we now know their performance and the result
were utterly surprising instead.
The best lesson I got though was from the very few words by
team captain Thierry Dusautoir, in his response to post match
interviewers.
“We didn’t want to go like that, we just wanted to show we can play
some good rugby and enjoy the game”… Well summed up! All they
had left was just this “back to the basics of why they play rugby”.
And it’s the same in business isn’t it? What do you do when you have
had enough listening to bad news on the economy? What do you do
once the sense of crisis has been lingering for so long that you can’t
remember last time you felt buoyant and positive ? Well you go back
to your passion for the game (Your business) and shut your ears to the
noise of turmoil to focus on growth no matter what!
Raymond Aaron, Author of “Chicken Soup For The Canadian Soul” talks
about The 21 Unbreakable Rules For Business Success. Rule #7 is
“Always have at least 5 Systemised Marketing Strategies, meaning they
are operational day in day out.
If you just do this you may discover, as a client of my company recently
did in the heating industry, that one mail out of 50 letters only, can be the
beginning of a turnaround. Of course it’s not just any letter, but the results
were better than any advertising he had done before.
“If you aren’t fired with enthusiasm, you will be fired with enthusiasm.”
